Hosanna is a private, Christian school in Vancouver, Washington, partnering with families and students from Preschool to 12th Grade.

The Elementary Teacher Assistant will work to provide support to our Kindergarten teacher on Tuesdays and Thursdays during regular school hours. At times they may be asked to work with other classes within the Elementary school on those days. The right person for the role may be asked to work additional days if needed. 

Teacher Assistant Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties may include but are not limited to supervising young children in a classroom setting, take attendance everyday and report that to the Teacher, work individually with students to improve their performance, monitor lunches or recess, and answer questions about lessons.

Some additional duties are listed below:

• Getting the classroom ready for lessons and cleaning up after lessons to maintain a safe and clean environment.
• Assisting the Teacher in preparing the lesson materials and school equipment.
• Recording and/or reporting student’s progress to the teacher or administrative staff.
• Helping students stay focused during class lessons and desk work.
• Supervising group activities, sporting events and school field trips.
• Helping teachers manage students’ behavior and spending one on one time with students who are having trouble staying focused or engaged.
• Looking after children who are unwell or upset.
• Providing a healthy and safe learning environment at all times.

Teacher Assistant Skills and Qualifications:

A successful candidate will have many if not all of the following skills and qualifications needed to do the job well:

• Ability to communicate clearly with Teachers and other staff members
• Ability to communicate clearly with students of all ages
• Ability to create an encouraging learning environment
• Excellent active listening skills
• Understanding and sensitivity towards children
• Excellent knowledge of lessons that students are required to learn in class
• Ability to carry out tasks requested by the teacher including computer use
• Ability to remain calm during stressful situations
• Willingness to work on different activities both inside and outside on the school premises.
• High School Diploma or GED
• Be able to pass a criminal background check
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field is preferred but not required

In addition to the above requirements the ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate work experience related to the job. This can include previous employment in another school or educational institution. It will also help if the candidate has worked in an environment with Elementary school children.
